Support Work at Three Circles

Our engagement team primary aim is to actively engage each end every one of the young people at Three Circles, with an aim to give them a voice, help develop their confidence, self worth and belief in themselves. Support work is allocated by the social work team, approximately 10% of the children we support are allocated a support worker.

Out team act as mentors, advocates, and role models, offering support with issues like mental health, relationships, education, employment.

We help change the direction lof a young people’s life—supporting them to:

  • Builds confidence, self-esteem, and resilience.

  • Helps young people discover their identity and voice.

  • Teaches practical skills (e.g. communication, teamwork, problem-solving).

  • Encourages critical thinking and decision-making.

  • Offers a safe space for expression and support.

  • Reduces social isolation and promotes emotional resilience.

  • Avoid crime or exploitation.

  • Stay in education or employment.

  • Build healthy relationships.

  • Develop self-esteem, resilience and help re-focus.

What is Support work?

Our support work is based on a 1:1 basis to give the young person a safe space to talk and express how they are feeling and work on some key areas that they may be struggling with, and is tailor made for the individual.

Support work is referred to us from the supervising social workers to provide additional support when needed to the young person, support work is child led, if the young people choose to engage—this is key to building trust and genuine relationships.

Activities

Our team fully understand and embrace a wide variety of activities that help break down barriers, build and develop confidence and resilience, in a fun, exciting and engaging way, helping them learn essential life skills and develop critical thinking.

We offer a huge array of activities and opportunities for the young people, with the list being endless and ever growing.

We fully embrace the mental and physical benefits of being active and outdoors, so far this year we have being indoor climbing, paddle boarding, to a challenging mountain biking in the hills of north Wales, football, badminton, table tennis, obstacle courses from swinging in the trees at go ape, to indoor challenges at ninja warrior and flip out.

Not only do all of these activities provide physical and health benefits, but there are also much more to it than that-

Mental Benefits

1. Stress relief: The focus required, and natural setting help calm the mind.

2. Mental resilience: Tackling technical trails builds confidence and grit.

3. Enhances focus and decision-making: Constant terrain changes keep your mind sharp, staying present is critical for safety.

6. Increases confidence: Overcoming difficult routes on climbing walls builds self-efficacy and perseverance.

🌲 Outdoor & Nature Benefits

  1. Immersion in nature: Trails often pass through forests, mountains, and scenic landscapes.

  2. Vitamin D boost: Time in the sun supports immune health and mood regulation.

  3. Exploration and adventure: Trails offer a sense of freedom and discovery.

Not all activities are as active, we also take full benefit to the musical and creative talents, with spending time in recording studio, to building a remote-controlled model boat as well as many many other arts and craft based activities.

Rather than us talk about what we think the young people get out of it, here are some of the thoughts and experiences from some of the young people we support-

Building a boat:

One project that has been a huge success was the building and launching of a model radio-controlled boat. This took a lot of preplanning, patience, belief in the process and out of the box thinking from the young person and the ability to think on your feet to solve problems.

The project took 5 months and was successfully launched at the Manley Mere event last month.

The young person commented that:

“it has been great to be free with what I do, and I got to build a boat. I’ve enjoyed being able to do as I wanted and feel a lot happier after doing the session.”

The carer also commented:

“It’s been great that Paul comes and takes him out, it gives us a little bit of time to get some things around the house or spend time with the other children. He has been building a boat with him and is always excited for Paul to come for his next visit. It’s an extra person for him to chat to, which is great because sometimes our young man doesn’t always like to open up. It gives him that space away from home to do that which is fantastic. The last few sessions he has been in a great mood afterwards. Thank you.”
