LGBTQI Youth In Care

We are fully committed to the genuine acceptance of difference, and of the right of everyone to be who they wish to be. We will pioneer excellence on behalf of LGBTQI children & young people in care, and strive to develop an ethos of tolerance, understanding and inclusive practice.

With the LGBT Foundation, we delivered the first consultation in the UK on the experiences of LGBT young people in care in 2013. The findings of this consultation were used to develop a resource leaflet for foster carers entitled 'Supporting LGBT Young People, Information for Foster Carers'. Last year we consulted with young people at the Proud Trust about what makes good care for a Trans child or young person. The results of this have been used to produce a leaflet for young people 'Trans Youth in Care, Know Your Rights'.

We have lots more planned for this year including the release of a trans youth in care toolkit for professionals and working with the Care Leavers Association to improve health outcomes for young people.
